PRODUCT REGULATIONS / PRODUCT COMPLIANCE

Draft law would require labeling of fur products with identification marks

Draft law would apply to companies and individuals participating in the circulation of products made with the use of natural fur. The law would require them to place special “identification marks” on the relevant products.

Draft law would prohibit the circulation of the relevant goods which do not bear the identification mark. Also, the companies and individuals participating in the circulation of fur products would be required to report on the quantity of products marked by them with identification marks. Draft law would also impose some other requirements on such companies and individuals.

“Circulation of products” for the purpose of these requirements includes storage, transportation, manufacture, purchase and sale as well as import.

The exemptions to these requirements include, for example, products transported and stored for the purpose of assessing their compliance with the applicable technical regulations as well as products imported into Russia solely for the exhibition purposes.

At the current stage, these requirements have only been proposed for fur products as a pilot project.
