Ukraine: Adopted list of substances and components permitted to be used for organic food production

As of 21 August 2020, the list of substances, components and ingredients that can be used during “organic food production” has entered into force.

The list includes a number of substances, ingredients and components the use of which during organic food production is permitted in Ukraine as well as substances and components the use of which in organic food production is subject to restrictions.

1. Plant protection components and substances

The list includes components that are not subject to any restrictions (e.g. garlic extract or maltodextrin) and components to which restrictions apply. For example, pheromones can only be used in sprinklers and catchers and fatty acids – in any way, except for herbicidal purposes.

2. Fertilisers

The list includes animal excrements (except for those coming from industrial manufacturing processes), mushroom manufacture wastes, sawdust (provided that it was not chemically treated), potassium sulphate, natrium chloride, etc.

3. Animal Feed Additives

The list includes vitamins and microelements (iodine, iron, etc.), mixtures of microelements, feed additives (E200, E236, E237, E260, etc.)

4. Components and substances used for cleaning and disinfection of ponds, cages, buildings and structures

The list includes water and steam; lime milk; lime; quicklime; sodium hypochlorite (such as liquid bleach); caustic soda; caustic potassium; hydrogen peroxide, etc.
