In May 2019 Uzbekistan ratified the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants that aims to eliminate or restrict the production and use of persistent organic pollutants.
As of 21 November 2019, the State Committee of Ecology and Environmental Protection is appointed as the competent authority responsible for the following:
- coordination of the activities of ministries and departments, local executive authorities and other organizations aimed at ensuring the implementation of the Convention;
- timely development and regular updating of the National Action Plan for the Convention;
- ensuring effective interaction with international and regional organizations on issues of compliance with the requirements of the Convention.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan will send a notification to the Convention Secretariat about the responsible competent authority of Uzbekistan.
