Belarus: Approved fire safety rules for storing substances and materials

As of 18 May 2018, organisations that operate warehouses or storage areas for materials and substances are required to comply with the rules adopted by Instruction on Storing Substances and Materials. The Instruction imposes storage requirements aimed at ensuring fire safety at industrial and other facilities and warehouses.

Annex to the Instruction defines which substances or materials can be stored together and for which separate storage is mandatory.  It lists codes and groups of substances and materials that can’t be stored with explosives, flammable liquids, flammable solids, etc.

Chapter 1 of the Instruction sets out general storage requirements. For example, the total weight of aerosol packaging when stored in the same premises with other flammables must not exceed 450 kg.  Shelves on which flammable substances and materials are stored, must be made of non-combustible materials and placed at a distance of not less than 1 meter from heating and lighting devices.

The Instruction further provides separate sets of requirements applicable to: combustible fibres and combustible gas cylinders.
