RUSSIA: Mandatory ID labelling of beer and beer-like drinks

Russia has introduced mandatory ID labelling for beer and beer-like drinks (e.g. cider).

As of 1 March 2023, manufacturers and importers may voluntarily start marking their products, such as beer and cider with the ID marking.

As of 1 April 2023, it is mandatory to label all such drinks that are packaged in kegs.

As of 1 October 2023, it is mandatory to label (provide the mandatory ID labelling) all products that come in glass or polymer consumer packaging.

Russia: Dairy products must have mandatory identification marking as of 1 June 2020

Earlier on, it was established that the deadline for the introduction of mandatory labelling of certain types of dairy products, identified by Direction of the Government of the Russian Federation of April 28, 2018 N 792-r, will be set depending on the results of the experiment on labelling of dairy products with identification marks. Now the exact date has been set as 1 June 2020.

Russia: Milk and dairy products are to be subject to identification marking

Manufacturers and importers of milk and dairy products are to be required to label such products with identification marks.

Milk and dairy products have been included into the list of products that are subject to compulsory marking with identification marks.  Other products that are also in this list include tobacco, perfumery, footwear, etc.

Russia: Mandatory identification marking of tobacco products

As of 1 March 2019 all tobacco manufacturers and sellers are required to register with the national system “Chestny Znak” in order to ensure their products bear compulsory identification marks.

As of 1 July 2019, it is prohibited to manufacture any tobacco products that have not been marked with an identification mark. All tobacco manufacturers are required to place a unique code (in Data Matrix format) on each pack of cigarettes.
