Russia: Identification marking experiment for certain types of dairy products

The Government has commenced an experiment on marking certain types of dairy products with identification signs. The experiment is to be conducted from 15 July 2019 to 29 February 2020.The goods that are in scope of the experiment include certain types of dairy products made from pasteurized, ultra-pasteurized, sterilized, ultra-high temperature milk, and / or pasteurized, ultra-pasteurized, sterilized, ultra-high-temperature processed dairy products, that are manufactured in an industrial manner and packed in consumer containers. The full list of products included into the experiment is provided in Annex 1 to Decree No. 836 of 29 June 2019.

The purpose of the experiment is to test the available technical means that may be used for identification marking of the dairy products. The purpose of the subsequent mandatory identification marking of these products is to prevent counterfeit and unlawful goods from circulating on the market and to ensure traceability of each product along the supply chain in the Russian Federation.

Participants of the goods circulation market (i.e. manufacturers, importers, distributors and retailers, including catering facilities) can voluntary participate in the experiment. In order to participate in the experiment, they are required to complete an application form based on the Methodical Recommendations and the relevant procedure which are adopted separately.
