EAEU: Russian clarification on applying Technical Regulation on the safety of alcoholic drinks

The Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation published a Letter clarifying the application of the EAEU Technical Regulation on the Safety of Alcohol-Containing Products EAEU TR 047/2018).

In particular, the Letter clarifies that, the use of food additives in alcohol-containing products (drinks and beverages) is regulated by the Technical Regulation on the Safety of Food Additives (TR CU 029/2012) unless there is a direct prohibition or exception in the TR on Alcohol-Containing Products.

On the issue of the possibility of indicating the mass concentration of sugars on the label of alcoholic products in units of "g / 100 ml", the Letter clarified that in accordance with subparagraph "e" of paragraph 31 of the TR on the Safety of Alcohol-Containing Products, the mass concentration of sugars in alcoholic products can only be indicated in “g/dm3”, “g/l” or “g/100 cm3”. No other units are allowed in Russian language labels. 

In addition, the Letter explained that the possibility to postpone the date of entry into force of the TR on the Safety of Alcohol-Containing Products to January 1, 2022 is currently being discussed.
