EAEU: Amended sanitary rules for raw materials to be used for animal feed production

As of 26 November 2022, the amendments to the Common Veterinary and Sanitary Requirements enter into force.

The amendments revise the list of raw materials (not intended for human consumption) of animal or fish origin intended for the production of animal feed. The revised rules allow the importation into the EAEU or movement within the EAEU of the following types of raw materials:

-         non-edible meat raw materials, considered suitable for the production of feed by the results of veterinary and sanitary examination, intended for the production of feed for non-productive domestic animals (e.g. dogs and cats) and fur animals, obtained during the slaughter and processing of animals or birds at slaughterhouses or meat processing enterprises (also called “non-edible meat raw materials”);

-         non-edible fish raw materials considered suitable for the production of feed recognized by the results of a veterinary and sanitary examination, intended for the production of feed for non-productive domestic animals (dogs and cats) and fur animals, obtained from fish, crustaceans, molluscs or other aquatic animals (also called “non-edible fish raw materials”).

The following types of non-edible fish raw materials are prohibited for importation into the EAEU or movement within the EAEU:

-         containing biotoxins or infected with parasites dangerous to the health of non-productive domestic animals and fur animals;

-         poisonous fish of the following families: Tetraodontidae, Molidae, Diodontidae and Canthigasteridae;

-         materials treated with dyes and/or ionizing radiation;

-         materials subjected to defrosting during storage; and

-         materials showing any signs of deterioration.

Non-edible raw materials of animal origin intended for the production of ready meals for cats and dogs must be subjected to heat treatment.
