Russia: Experiment on mandatory identification marking of food supplements (BADs)

As of 1 May 2021, until 31 August 2022, the experiment of identification marking of food supplements will be taking place in Russia.

Market operators, such as food supplement manufacturers or importers, may choose to participate in this experiment on a voluntary basis.

The aims of the experiment are, among others:

  • determination of the composition of information about the product, allowing to unambiguously identify the product unit of biologically active food additives;
  • testing the completeness and sufficiency of the available mechanisms for labelling biologically active food additives with identification marking to prevent any unlawful import, production and circulation of biologically active food additives, including counterfeit ones, as well as to increase the collection of taxes and customs payments;
  • preliminary contributions by the market participants to the national catalogue of marked goods;
  • analysis of the feasibility of introducing mandatory labelling of biologically active food additives with identification marks based on the possibility of using appropriate technological solutions.

The following entities are to participate in the experiment: authorized federal executive bodies, market participants, such as importers and manufacturers (participating on a voluntary basis), the operator of the information system (Limited Liability Company "Operator-CRPT").
