The manual is recommended to be applied when inspecting the technical condition of vertical cylindrical steel overground isothermal tanks used or storage of liquefied hydrocarbon gases and liquid ammonia at a temperature not lower than minus 105 degrees Celsius and an overpressure not exceeding 0.02 MPa.
The inspection of the technical condition of isothermal tanks includes: periodic external inspection of the isothermal tank and monitoring the operation of its systems with the purpose of visual assessment of its technical condition during operation; full technical diagnostics of an isothermal reservoir with use of non-destructive testing methods and decommissioning of the isothermal reservoir; partial technical diagnostics of an isothermal tank in the operation mode.
The adopted document also sets out the requirements for:
- types, design solutions and the main parameters of isothermal tanks;
- periodic external inspection of the isothermal tank in operation mode;
- full technical diagnosis of the isothermal tank;
- works that have to be performed during the full technical diagnosis of an isothermal tank;
- assessment of the actual technical condition of the isothermal tank;
- assessment of the residual life of the isothermal reservoir;
- carrying out a partial technical diagnosis of an isothermal tank;
- conducting technical diagnostics of an isothermal tank equipped with a system of constant acoustic emission monitoring;
- conducting an accident risk analysis.
