As of 9 November 2019, water bodies are to be assigned a particular category (A, B, V or G) in accordance with the adopted Rules.
The purpose of assigning water bodies to particular categories is to establish technological indicators of the best available technologies in the field of wastewater treatment using centralized drainage systems of settlements or urban districts. The categorization of water resources is carried out by Rosvodresources (the Federal Water Resources Agency).
The Rules set out, among other things:
- the grounds and procedure for changing the category;
- the procedure for entering information on categories of water bodies in the state water register;
- requirements for the application of a legal entity on the categorization of a water body; and
- grounds for refusal to consider an application for categorization of an object.
