Russia: Work with computers no longer requires medical surveillance

Employees working with computers (PCs) over 50% of their working time will no longer require regular medical examinations.

Order No. 187n / 268n of 3 April 2020 amended Order No. 302n listing hazardous and harmful types of work requiring regular medical examination of workers. The amendment makes the following working conditions harmful or hazardous: "electromagnetic field of a broadband frequency spectrum (5Hz-2kHz, 2kHz-400kHz) (when exceeding the maximum permissible level)” and removed the frequency range of a personal computer from the list of harmful exposures requiring regular medical surveillance.

The requirement to conduct medical examinations of employees working with computers (at computer screens) is also contained in the Sanitary Rules SanPiN 2.2.2/2.4.1340-03 but these rules have not been amended as at 17 May 2020. It is expected, however, that the legislation will be aligned to reflect the amendment that removes the requirement of regular medical examination of office workers.
